Music teaches me how to listen and understand situations in my life.

I can sing and dance to express what I like and what I don’t like.  And I like that we are always together as a family.

Mission Statement

Harmony, Hope & Healing is a creative music program offering dignity and spiritual healing to the homeless and underserved in the Chicago area.

Case Statement

Harmony, Hope & Healing includes musical, educational, therapeutic, creative and performance components which facilitate growth in musical knowledge, build creativity and confidence in self-expression as well as improve self-esteem. Our program most importantly serves as a healing tool for recovery from the adverse effects of homelessness and poverty. We typically work in collaborative partnership with various social services agencies, church and community based organizations in order to achieve our goals and further the extent of our outreach. Our ultimate goal is to use music as a healing tool and a vehicle to enhance life skills while improving overall quality of life.

Programming

Programming at Harmony, Hope & Healing includes weekly music activities at all sites, with Courage meeting only once a month.

Activity durations vary:

·         Group sessions with adult clients are held for one to two hours;
·         Children's group sessions with children meet for 30 minutes;

·         Parent/Child music class lasts up to one hour.

·         These activities include choir rehearsals, music listening and discussion classes, group piano lessons, parent/child classes, and musical English class to assist those participants learning English as a second language.

·         The culmination of all this work is a concert at each site and a combined choir concert in late winter or early spring.

·         In addition, field trips to hear various musical performances are planned throughout the year.

·         Private voice, piano and music lessons are provided upon the request of individuals.

·         The Parent/Child Program for Courage offers a 1-hour program once a month from September to May, culminating in an event in spring.
